Description

Julian Langworthy doesn’t do things by halves, and this 2024 Nocturne SR Chardonnay is another prime example of why Nocturne is one of the most exciting small-batch labels in Margaret River.

Sourced from a handful of top-tier Treeton vineyards, this is a more mid-weight expression of the region’s famed Chardonnay - vibrant, finely structured, and dangerously easy to drink. The 2024 season threw a few curveballs (dry, early, and oddly smooth sailing), but Margaret River’s natural air-conditioning - aka the Indian and Southern Oceans - kept things balanced, allowing for a long, even ripening.

The fruit was hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed, and fermented wild in a mix of new and seasoned puncheons, left untouched on lees until bottling.

It’s a Chardonnay built for pure enjoyment - generous but refined, crisp but textural, and ready to drink now. If you’ve ever felt that familiar itch for a good Margaret River Chardonnay on a weeknight, this is the bottle to have on standby.

2024, had a full Kate Bush Stranger things vibe going on. One of the earliest and Driest growing seasons I have ever experienced. My First Easter off picking grapes in 24 Aussie vintages, very nice but concerning. The weirdness rolls on in that it was actually pretty darn good harvest, I know I always say that right but such is the super power of the Margaret River grape growing region. Those massive air-conditioners called the Indian and Southern Oceans still had our back. So whilst it was warm we didn’t melt by any means, lack of rain was a larger concern but those that managed their water well (read me) have made some fabulous wines.

This wine is a combination of four vineyards all epic in their own kinda way…., Grace & White, Wilson’s , Victory Point and Tassell Road. Blending this wine was very exciting I must say it’s a true honour and pleasure to have such amazing fruit to work with and showcase the best Margaret River has to offer.

The grapes were harvested by hand and whole bunch-pressed directly to new, one- and two-year-old puncheons, with a smattering of barriques for good measure. We did no settling or fining. This juice was then very carefully neglected and allowed to undergo spontaneous fermentation, which kicked off on day three after pressing. After a 3-week ferment the wine remained on gross lees unsulphured until August of that year. In November it was emptied from barrel, settled, filtered and bottled.

This wine is, well delicious. The hallmark of this season is the accessibility and drinkability of these wines especially in their youth.. It’s pale green, smells of white stone fruits, piles of nectarine and seabreeze. Its more generous perhaps than the traditional Nocturne style but delicious and accessable and just a joy to drink.. As with every Nocturne wine the texture and flavour to die for impeccably framed by sherbert like acidity and fine phenolic structure..

Chardonnay is what Jesus made when he turned water into wine; it’s also why we winemakers have a God complex. – Julian Langworthy, Nocturne

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
