Description

We're not Pinotage regulars here at DD, but this Pinotage from Wolf & Woman seriously stopped us in our tracks.

Jolandie Fouché has a knack for making Pinotage that’s both true to its Swartland roots and seriously drinkable. The 2023 release comes from two dry-farmed bush vine sites in the Paardeberg—one planted in 1973, the other in 1999—set in decomposed granite soils that give the wine its purity and structure.

The grapes were hand-harvested early in the morning, cooled overnight, and then naturally fermented with a mix of whole-cluster and whole-berry fruit. After a gentle maceration and 14 days on skins, it spent eight months in old oak before settling in concrete for another two. The result? A Pinotage with bright red fruit, subtle spice, and fine tannins that keep everything in check.

It’s got depth without being heavy, making it just as good for a midweek dinner as it is for tucking away in the cellar. A fresh, refined take on South Africa’s signature grape.

95 points - "Regularly one of my favourite Pinotages, this Old Vine Project red showcases the decomposed granite soils of the Paardeberg, using 90% grapes from a parcel planted in 1973. Light and ethereal, it has subtle 15% whole bunch spices, plum and red cherry fruit, violet and rose petal top notes and sculpted tannins. 2024-30" - Tim Atkin MW (2024 South African Wine Report)

WOLF & WOMAN is a blend of grapes from two different vineyards,
both of which are situated in granite soil in the Paardeberg region.
Dryland bush vines planted in 1973 yielded 90% of the grapes;
the remaining 10% came from younger dryland bush vines that grow
at 350m above sea level.

Two pickings were done from each vineyard, providing us with berries
with varying characteristics. This, in turn, gave the final blend more
character and depth. All of the grapes were hand-picked early in the
morning, packed in crates, and rested in a cold room for 24 hours.

Bunch sorting was done the next day, after which the grapes were
transferred to open-top fermenters – 15% whole bunch, and the rest
destemmed and as whole berry. It cold-soaked here for 3 days before
natural fermentation started, supported by one punch-down per day.

Once fermentation was completed the wine was left on the skins for
7 days before light pressing, and then transferred into a combination of
old 300L and 500 L barrels. After 8 months the wine was racked and
blended to a concrete tank. The final blend matured for a additional
2 months before bottling.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
