Description

From a Burgundian style, close-planted vineyard in Geelong, this wine must bring back fond memories for winemaker Ben, of his time spent working at Domaine Dujac.

The wine itself is very Burgundian in style, with super fine whispery tannins, an alluring nose of sweet spice, earth, forest floor, and purple flowers. This Pinot has a real transparency with fruit and loads of freshness. The fruit is quite spiced though, balancing out any sweet notes.

Such a harmonious wine, everything is balance with just bucket loads of complexity. Pure and delicate, it a fantastic example of what a winemaker can do when they have a laser like focus on the what they want to extract from single-site wines.

"A deepish crimson ruby. More darkly fruited and concentrated than last year's version. Dark cherries, damson plums, peony and spice on the bouquet. Saturates the palate, which is concentrated, structured, fleshy and very long. It's so good now but will get even better over the next six to eight years and probably longer. Another superb 2023 Geelong pinot from the two Bens."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

97 points - "A single-vineyard wine from the Strathmore Vineyard, planted with MV6 and Abel clones in the late 1990s; 20% whole bunches. Matured in 30% new puncheons and barriques. A deepish crimson ruby. More darkly fruited and concentrated than last year's version. Dark cherries, damson plums, peony and spice on the bouquet. Saturates the palate, which is concentrated, structured, fleshy and very long. It's so good now but will get even better over the next six to eight years and probably longer. Another superb 2023 Geelong pinot from the two Bens." - Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

95+ points - "The ropes here are long and firm but they’re wrapped around a mountain of assorted flavours and feels. This pinot noir is quite something. It’s both tight and expressive at once, with undergrowth, loganberry, black cherry and earth flavours coming infused with dried herbs and nuts. Mulline is a star, and here’s the proof." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

94 points - "The 2023 Sutherlands Creek Pinot Noir is sappy and laden with cherry, star anise, mulberry, char, fresh leather, roasted meat drippings and a hint of game. It is perfumed and layered, with forest floor, woodsmoke and moss. In the mouth, the wine is supple, exotically spiced (think sumac, star anise and a little clove) and lingers through the finish. This is very good." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

    Towards Burgundy

There is something special about the pinot noirs from this area and the Mulline captures the elements that make this a beautiful wine.Certainly the wine goes beyond a standard Australian pinot noir. The terroir creates that difference so we are heading towards burgundy.

A medium weight with delightful finish this wine is so enjoyable and drinkable.

Mulline Wines

Established in 2018 Mulline Vintners is a double dose of Bens, specifically winemaker Ben Mullen and business brain and wine drinker Ben Hine. Mullen has experience from around the globe, and was most recently winemaker at Clyde Park.

They source fruit from around the Geelong area of Victoria with a focus on Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, working with growers farming sustainably and organically. All steps of the winemaking operation are done with a major focus on looking after the environment.

Their first releases from the 2019 vintage were met with some acclaim - they are definitely young guns to watch out for.

To prevent embarrassment and to encourage rapping couplets... Mulline rhymes with “divine”.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
