Description

Another great Chardonnay here from acclaimed winemaker, Peter Dredge.

The concept is the same as his Tasmania Pinot Noir, where he combines fruit from across the state to produce a Chardonnay which encapsulates the character of the vintage.

It's a taut, full-flavoured and distinctly savoury style of Chardonnay that is both complex and compelling to drink.

Strike while the iron is hot for this one, it's sure to fly out the door!

"Chardonnay from the Tamar Valley (60%) and Derwent Valley (40%); 2023 is the first year of pressing juice to 1000L clay amphora, as well as the seasoned oak casks of previous releases; wild ferment, nine months on lees, 10% whole clusters by volume in the amphora. Wowee! Crystalline lemon and grapefruit of superb clarity and vivid cut. Peach, soft spice, crushed stone, almond blossom and lemon curd. Concentrated, taut and fine with a long, harmonious citrus finish. Lovely."

"Terrific. Leave it alone for another year or two, else you may go blind, such is its brightness."

96 points - "Complex and layered aromas of grilled nuts, melon skin, grapefruit pith, white stone fruit and a whiff of struck match. Tight and pin-point focused on the palate. Layered flavours of citrus, melon, nougat, just-ripe nectarine and mineral. Slaty acidity and a lick of phenolics round it out very nicely. A sophisticated and very smart example of modern Australian chardonnay." - Aaron Brasher (The Real Review)

95+ points - "White peach, honey almond, brine, lemon and lemon zest, a little aniseed too, which is very nice. It’s tight, with a zipline of acidity, distinctly chalky/stony texture, intense in flavour, some umami button mushroom character, and a zinging lime/grapefruity finish of considerable length. Terrific. Leave it alone for another year or two, else you may go blind, such is its brightness." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

    Tassie nectar

Not surprisingly, Dr Edge (aka Peter Dredge) has produced a glorious multi-region Tassie Chardonnay. White peach, almond and a little green apple on the palate - yum!

    Decent Drop

3.8 Pretty good drop, prefer the classic tassie chardonnay's. A little too sharp and acidic for my taste

    worth the a try!

this wine has a lot of hype and it does stand up to it imo!

encapsulating the vintage by using the best grapes they could get, this white has a brilliant mouth feel with good body and a nice touch of oak with predominant stone fruit flavours - Chablis esq with a touch more oak.

    nice stuff, worth trying.

Dr. Edge

Peter Dredge is Dr. Edge. He is one of the most intuitive and talented winemakers on the Apple Isle.

With a wealth of experience garnered at wineries such as Bay of Fires, he has revitalised the Meadowbank label and returned it to its place as one of the must-watch vineyards in Tasmania.

Dr. Edge is his passion project where he can take risks and make Pinot Noir, Chardonnay & Riesling that truly excites him. His creativity can fly under the Dr. Edge banner and wines that walk a fine line of tension, funk and freshness invariably arise.

Only small batches of wine is produced, all made by hand, and typically they sell out in short order. Playful, pleasurable and remarkably thoughtful, the Dr. Edge creations are riveting things to drink and have rightfully earned cult status among collectors of Tasmania's finest.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
