Description
The 2022 Monthelie 1er Cru La Riotte Rouge is a rare and refined Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s rising stars in red wine production, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey. While he is renowned for his whites, this is only the third vintage of Monthelie 1er Cru La Riotte, and it’s already gaining a reputation as an elegant and poised expression of this lesser-known appellation. The grapes are treated with the same care and attention as PYCM’s whites, with about 30% whole-bunch fermentation and a gentle vinification process designed to highlight the freshness and finesse of the fruit.
The wine opens with an inviting nose of ripe red berries—think wild strawberries and raspberries—alongside hints of violets, subtle spice, and earthy undertones that give it an appealing depth. There’s a lovely balance between the brightness of the fruit and the more savoury, earthy elements that Pinot Noir can express when treated with care.
On the palate, the 2022 Monthelie La Riotte is fresh and vibrant, with a silky texture and fine, integrated tannins. The red berry flavours are pure and focused, with a gentle spiciness from the whole-bunch fermentation that adds layers of complexity. There’s a lovely sense of lift and energy throughout, and the wine finishes long, with a touch of minerality and fresh acidity that lingers beautifully on the palate.
This is a wine that showcases finesse over power, with a refined elegance that will reward those who appreciate the subtleties of great Pinot Noir. While approachable now, it will develop even more complexity with time. Drink from 2025 to 2030 to enjoy its full potential. It’s a superb addition to any Burgundy lover’s cellar and a fantastic introduction to the red wines of PYCM.

Ordering
We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.
Some things to keep in mind:
- Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.
We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.
To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
