Description

Once an underdog in Burgundy, Aligoté is having its moment, and Benjamin Leroux has been at the forefront of its renaissance.

His 2022 Bourgogne Aligoté is a prime example of this variety’s potential, sourced from two remarkable old-vine parcels, including a 50-year-old vineyard in Meursault’s Les Belles Roses and ancient vines in Bouzeron (some over 100 years old!). These are no ordinary Aligoté vines—they’re Aligoté Doré, known for their low yields and incredible concentration.

Fermented and matured in a mix of seasoned oak and glass Wine Globes, this wine has a creamy texture that’s beautifully balanced by vibrant freshness. The 2022 release showcases exceptional poise and length, with layers of citrus and stone fruit, all underpinned by a clean, mineral edge.

It’s mid-weight, but don’t let that fool you—it has serious drive and elegance that make it a benchmark Aligoté. Snap it up quickly; it sells out every year.

Five Star Wine
Benjamin is one of the new intake of the Aligoteurs group. Is that why he has serves his Aligoté at the end? Pale in colour with a light green tint. A wonderful fragrance. Fresh pears, a little greengage, a bevy of different fruits, in fact with an appealing acidity to finish and excellent length.”
- 88-90 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

Back in his Domaine Comte Armand days, Leroux was one of the first in Burgundy to celebrate old-vine Aligoté. Working with great, old-vine material and super-precise winemaking, this wine remains at the top of the spectrum. In fact, the 2022 may well set a new benchmark for this bottling, with exceptional texture, poise and balance. The key components are a parcel of 50-year-old vines in Meursault’s Les Belles Roses climat and a precious parcel of 85–105-year-old vines in Bouzeron. The vine material in both vineyards is of the high-quality, low-yielding Aligoté Doré cultivar. The 2022 fermented and matured in seasoned 12-hectolitre ovals and glass Wine Globes. Fans of this wine will be pleased to hear there’s a new Aligoté cuvée on the way from old vines in Chassagne. This is super: creamy, layered yet vibrantly fresh.

Benjamin Leroux

Burgundian native Benjamin Leroux is one of the brightest minds and winemaking talents of his generation.

Considered a winemaking prodigy from an early age, Leroux attended the Lycée Viticole in Baune at the tender age of 13. Then, at the age of just 26, he ascended to the roles of manager and winemaker in the famed cellars of Domaine Comte Armand - a remarkable vote of confidence in one so young.

In 2007 he launched his eponymous label to wide critical acclaim. His has been a meteoric rise through the ranks of Burgundy's producers. His incisive modern approach to winemaking combined with his deep knowledge and respect for tradition has seen his small, hand-crafted cuveés coveted by collectors across the world.

These wines speak eloquently of where they come from. A legend in the making, Leroux's wines are some of the most exciting in modern-day Burgundy.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
