Description

In the Savage White, it's a familiar blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, wrapped up into a wine that you'll want to sip and savour, rather than glug.

It shows beautiful aromatics of citrus and stone fruits, as well as some savoury oatmeal and spice characters. The palate is buttery and rich, with a fullness in the mouth and a silky feel, balanced by vibrant acidity and some more citrus and stone fruit flavours.

If you're curious to try some white wines out of South Africa, it's difficult to get much better than the Savage White, a wine that deserves much attention.

96 Points - "The Savage White is a 69/31 Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon blend from Elandskloof and neighbouring Villiersdrop. Separately fermented in 20% new wood, it's savoury, pithy and stony, with lemongrass, beeswax and grapefruit flavours, subtle reduction and a long, tapering finish. One of the best Savage Whites yet." - Tim Atkin MW

96 Points - "This is the second vintage of the Savage White after returning to a pure orthodox white Bordeaux style blend with 69% Sauvignon Blanc and 31% Semillon from trellised and bush vine vineyards around the Western Cape. The whole bunch pressing and oxidative handling of the must followed by a natural fermentation, with the Semillon portion going through malolactic fermentation, are undoubtedly part of th secret to Duncan's rich, opulent style. 2021 was another cracking white wine vintage and this release sees the Savage White reach new levels of textural lavishness and palate breadth. The aromatics are rich and expressive with multiple layers of grapefruit preserve, peach tea, green apple pastille and delicate hints of chamomile, honey and pineapple. In the mouth the wine rolls across the palate with an impressively dense glycerol weight of fruit together with the most delicious tangy mouth-watering acids. The wine spent 10 months in oak, 20% new, which adds a very attractive but subtle lick of crystallised tangerines, vanilla pod spice and a waxy liquid minerality on the finish. Piercing and impressively intense, this wine has arguably never been better and serves as a liquid tribute to the quality of the vintage drinking well from release and over 8 to 10+ years." - Greg Sherwood MW (Wine Safari)

95 Points - "Sauvignon with 31% semillon, highly complex 2021 has a passionfruit, citrus core with many nuances capturing the attention. Ends salty, the oak subservient, sparks with life & freshness. Wonderful rendition of Bordeaux blanc, has crystalline purity, focus." - Christine Rudman (Platter Wine Guide)

Savage

Duncan Savage discovered his passion for winemaking after high school, leading him to study at Elsenburg Agricultural College. He spent 14 years at Cape Point Vineyards, honing his skills before founding Savage Wines in Cape Town's Salt River in 2016. Duncan's first solo vintage in 2011 quickly garnered acclaim, solidifying his reputation.

Savage Wines focuses on sourcing grapes from high-altitude and maritime vineyards across the Western Cape, particularly granitic soils. Duncan leases vineyards and collaborates with dedicated South African growers to produce elegant and classic wines. His minimal intervention approach, using whole bunch fermentation, old wood, and amphorae, allows the terroir to shine.

The winery offers varieties like Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, and Touriga Nacional. With a history of producing Platter five-star wines, Savage Wines continues to impress and be a leader in the new wave of artisanal South African producers.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
