Description

The 2021 Quenard Claude et Fils 1er Récoltant embodies the rugged alpine terroir of Savoie and the dedication of the Quenard family. Domaine de la Gerbelle, originally a Carthusian farm, transformed under Claude Quenard’s leadership in the 1960s to focus on viticulture. In the early 2000s, the next generation transitioned to organic and biodynamic practices, earning certification by 2016. Now, Vincent Quenard leads the domaine, blending tradition with fresh ideas while maintaining their commitment to low-intervention winemaking.

Crafted from Jacquère grown on 30-year-old vines, this wine benefits from Savoie’s unique climate—an alpine setting with Mediterranean influences, ideal for vibrant, complex wines. The grapes undergo a 20-day maceration before fermentation and are aged on fine lees for 12 months to develop depth and texture. The result is a wine that bursts with alpine herbs, citrus, and orchard fruit aromas, offering refreshing clarity with layers of texture from its lees ageing.

Vincent’s approach focuses on purity, with minimal intervention to let the terroir shine. The 2021 1er Récoltant captures the character of Savoie’s high-altitude vineyards while showcasing the forward-thinking spirit of this family-run domaine.

"This is very well resolved, skin fermented jaquere. All the bits fit in well, it is very complex, tannins are seamlessly woven through. It is a delight, and in that vein of ‘digestible wines’ that I tend to enjoy... everything just so and so well formed. It sits under medium weight so there’s high refreshment factor too. Really good here."

95 points - "Mea cupla, I haven’t drunk much orange wine this year (though have tasted a heap), so when approaching this wine was glad to find myself hooking in, and then some. This is very well resolved, skin fermented jaquere. All the bits fit in well, it is very complex, tannins are seamlessly woven through. It is a delight, and in that vein of ‘digestible wines’ that I tend to enjoy. Strong scents of dried, mixed citrus peel, faint ones of mustard and curry powder, some alpine herb lift, chamomile in there too. The palate goes down the orange juice and apple juice pathway rippling with fine, powdery structure and chew. There’s a faint, saline undercurrent, more of the exotic spice, some tonic/quinine bitterness in the mix – everything just so and so well formed. It sits under medium weight so there’s high refreshment factor too. Really good here." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Domaine de la Gerbelle is located in Chignin, in Savoie. The property was originally a farm which belonged to the Carthusian Order, where a mixed farming and breeding activity was developed. In the 1960s, Claude Quenard specialized in viticulture. At the beginning of 2000, his sons Claude, André and Guy converted the vineyard to organic farming. Biodynamic certification was obtained in 2016. Today, a new generation is taking the reins of the estate and putting their personal mark on it by launching a craft brewery activity, also focused on organic principles.

Les 1ers Récoltants is made from Jacquère whose vine age is around 30 years. The grapes are subjected to skin maceration for 20 days before gentle pressing. Fermentation occurs in vats and malolactic conversion is carried out. The wine is aged for 12 months on fine lees in vats.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
