Monchiero
Quite possibly one of Barolo's greatest under-the-radar producers, Monchiero owns vineyards in some of Barolo's most prestigious crus.
Farming 25 acres throughout the communes of Barolo and Alba, like so many Italian wine stories, they have generations of history farming and growing grapes, either selling the fruit, or making wine for personal consumption. In the 1950s, the brothers Remo and Maggiorino Monchiero started producing wine under their own family name.
They work out of small winery that was established in the 13th century and purchased by the brothers in 1982. Vittorio, son of Maggiorino, has since taken over and has eschewed the pressure to modernise, rather he pays homage, and respects the ancient traditions of the region.
