2018 Christmas Day Survival Pack
$150 DELIVERED
"So, tell me more about these wines," I hear you ask. No problem! Here's the line up:
2018 Brave New Wine Glitter Us Petillant Naturel
Petillant Naturel (Pet Nat) is an ancient style of natural sparkling wine that predates Champagne. The wines are lightly spritzy and loads of fun to drink - perfect for kicking off Christmas Day!
Yoko and Andries at Brave New Wine in Great Southern have a particular feel for making a Pet-Nat. This is their newest version, the first 'white' Pet-Nat in their colourful line up.
It's made from mainly Vermentino with a few bits and pieces of Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc thrown in the brew. It's light, crisp and as refreshing as a cool swim on a hot day.
2018 Ravensworth Riesling
Bryan Martin is a winemaker at the height of his powers. Setting aside the exceptional work he is doing behind the scenes at regional flagbearer, Clonakilla, his Ravensworth wines have become some of the Canberra region’s hottest releases.
Bryan’s winemaking style is equal parts science and artistic flair. He’s an adventurous spirit trapped in the body of a technical virtuoso. A concert pianist jamming to free jazz. It’s a killer combination.
This is a scintillating expression of Riesling. Nothing fancy (apart from a small component made in ceramic egg). Just amazing fruit made with a gentle and precise touch. It was no surprise to us that we loved this, as we have loved everything we have tried from Bryan recently.
Our only gripe is that he never makes enough.
2018 Unico Zelo Jade & Jasper Fiano
Unico Zelo is the project of winemaking couple Brendan and Laura Carter. In their words, their aim is to create “Italian-inspired, textural and site-expressive wines” and “Australian examples of Mediterranean varieties in an approachable and jovial fashion.”
The Carters are hugely passionate about Fiano, and they wholeheartedly believe in this variety's suitability to Australia's climate and culture.
So do we, it's a winner.
This comes from the ancient sandy limestone soils on the iconic Ricca Terra Farms vineyard in the Riverland region of South Australia. It's a wonderfully textural wine, full of fruit and clean acidity. All up it's delicious to drink, perfectly built for enjoying with food on a warm Summer's day.
2018 Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown Pret-a-Rosé
Husband and wife winemaking duo Tessa and Jeremy at Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown are two of Beechworth brightest rising stars.
Max Allen recently called them, “one of a remarkable number of impressive new wine labels to have cropped up in Beechworth over the last five years.” We believe Tessa and Jeremy are building something really special, and there's no doubting that they are going to be at the forefront of Beechworth wine for many years to come.
Their Rosé is a blend of Pinot Noir and Shiraz - a must-try for lovers of dry, savoury Rosé. It was made naturally with no additions except a little sulphur. Hand picked, basket pressed straight into, as Tessa puts it, "oooooooold barriques".
Rosé continues to grow in popularity and with so many easy-to-love examples like this out there at the moment, it's not hard to see why. The ultimate 'by the pool' wine.
2018 Two Tonne Tasmania Ziggurat Pinot Noir
Two Tonne Tasmania is the brainchild of Ricky Evens.
With the slogan ‘small parcels, big love’, Ricky’s approach is all about growing pristine, healthy fruit, harvesting at the right time, and then having to do as little as possible in the winery thereafter. Since his serendipitous entry into the much sort after sub-region of the Tamar Valley in 2013, his first few releases have made quite a few waves.
Pinot Noir is Ricky’s game, and he plays hardball.
The Ziggurat Pinot Noir is a delicious, highly-gluggable version of Pinot Noir built for Summer drinking.
This wine is made from two different vineyards, the fruit is primed for this Cru-Beaujolais-inspired style of wine that Ricky loves to make and drink.
Ziggurat is made to be a delicious early drinker, with Gamay-esque mouthfeel and tantalisingly vibrant flavours.
It's downright delicious.
2017 Adelina Shiraz Mataro
Col McBryde and Jennie Gardner are Adelina. A pair of smart cookies, each rocking a PhD in microbiology and between them some pretty serious winemaking chops. Together, they have formed one of the Clare Valley's most exciting wineries.
The Adelina Shiraz Mataro showcases the exquisite old vine Clare Valley fruit that Jen and Col have at their disposal.
Over half of the fruit in the 2017 release is sourced from vineyards 100+ years old, these are some of the Clare Valley's most precious and respected vineyards.
The wine itself is treated with the typical Adelina care: wild ferments, gentle handling, and this year a portion fermented in concrete. It's a more restrained and elegant representation of old-vine Clare Valley fruit. As a complete package, this is remarkable value and one of the best pound-for-pound reds in the Clare Valley.
AND if those six awesome drops weren't enough, one in every ten packs will receive a FREE MYSTERY MAGNUM from one of our awesome boutique producers! It could be anything from Ochota Barrels, to Dormilona, Two Tonne Tasmania, Tyrrell's, Yetti and the Kokonut & More!
