A remarkable review released over the weekend for one of the great Chardonnay bargains in the country, the 2021 Le Stagiaire Chardonnay from Mornington maestro, Barney Flanders.
It's a scintillating release from the near-perfect 2021 vintage. Fruit sourced from sites in Tuerong, Merricks and Balnarring, which have an average vine age of 25 years. The aroma profile is intense and powerfully concentrated with a hint of opulence — packed full of charm and intriguing personality.
There is never a lot of this wine around and given the value on offer, it's no wonder. Jane Faulkner's effusive 96 point review hails the 2021 as the finest ever release of this perennial DD favourite. Sub-$30 Chardonnay in Australia is rarely this good. This is terrific buying. We highly recommend you load up while stocks last.

"This has to be the best value chardonnay from the peninsula matched to quality but also, this vintage has delivered the finest to date. It’s superbly balanced with pristine fruit, the right amount of flinty sulphides, savouriness, texture and definition. There’s some tension on the palate, a purity to the acidity and excellent length. What a wine." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)
