2022 Carinus Polkadraai Heuwels Chenin Blanc

This cool-climate gem from the Polkadraai Hills showcases exhilarating intensity and a steely core, and is a wonderful modern take on South Africa's flagship variety.

Crafted by renowned winemaker Chris Alheit using grapes from Danie Carinus’ one-hectare vineyard, this Chenin Blanc is rooted in decomposed granite soils. In the winery, whole bunch pressing and a combination of 75% fermentation in concrete eggs and 25% in older oak barrels lend the wine extra texture and character.

The excellent 2022 vintage reveals ripe red apple flavours, with a slight grip adding to its structure. The texture is lovely, and the finish is cool and precise, highlighting the wine’s natural acidity and energy.

Perfect for aging, this Chenin Blanc will continue to develop complexity and depth over the next decade, making it a great choice for collectors of the world's finest Chenins.

2021 Mullineux Old Vines White

The 2021 Mullineux Old Vines White is a gem of a wine from the Swartland region, showcasing the indisputable talents of Chris and Andrea Mullineux.

This dynamic duo, with experience across France, South Africa, and California, has established Mullineux as one of South Africa’s most celebrated wineries. Their belief in the potential of the Swartland's ancient terroirs has earned them numerous accolades, including over fifty 5-star ratings from Platter’s South African Wine Guide and multiple "Winery of the Year" awards.

The Old Vines White is crafted predominantly from Chenin Blanc, with contributions from Clairette Blanche, Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Semillon Gris, and Verdelho. The vineyards are planted on a combination of granite, schist and iron based soils up to 65 years old, all sustainably farmed.

The nose is an inviting blend of florals and stone fruits, with subtle hints of dried honey and grilled nuts. The palate is a symphony of texture and energy, featuring citrus notes, creamy undertones from lees work and barrel / foudre maturation, with a fine bead of acidity.

A stunning textural white and a shining example of the quality that Swartland can produce.

2021 Gabrielskloof The Landscape Cabernet Franc

The 2021 Gabrielskloof The Landscape Cabernet Franc beautifully captures the essence of Gabrielskloof's unique terroir and commitment to sustainable winemaking.

Nestled in the Bot River area, this wine is a true reflection of the vineyard's rocky mountainside site with Overberg Shale and Table Mountain Sandstone soils. The 19-year-old vines contribute to the wine's remarkable texture and complexity. The fruit was hand-picked, destemmed, and naturally fermented without any added yeasts. The wine was then aged for 14 months in 30% new oak barrels.

On the nose, the 2021 Cabernet Franc offers an enticing bouquet of blackberries, liquorice, and cloves, complemented by fresh herbaceous notes. The palate is elegant and vibrant yet packs a punch, showcasing deep red fruit flavors and an almond husk texture from the tannins, adding a savoury counterpoint.

Perfect for pairing with hearty dishes or enjoyed on its own, and another showstopping wine from this excellent producer.

2018 Sijnn Red

The 2018 Sijnn Red is a captivating Syrah blend that embodies the pioneering spirit of Sijnn Wines.

Nestled in the remote Malgas region along the Breede River, this estate is a testament to resilience and innovation, producing exceptional wines in challenging conditions. This Syrah-dominant blend includes Trincadeira, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvedre, and Touriga Nacional, all grown as bush vines in stony, low-vigour soils.

Handpicked and meticulously sorted, the grapes undergo natural fermentation, with the Syrah and Trincadeira retaining about 10% whole bunches. The wine is aged for 22 months in a mix of 225L and 700L French oak barrels, 20% of which are new.

The nose offers an enticing bouquet of red berries, lavender, thyme, and rosemary. The palate is rich and full-bodied, showcasing dark spices, chocolate, and a hint of charcuterie. It is elegantly powerful, with a vibrant acidity and firm tannins that promise longevity.

With a bit of age already this is a beautiful drink right now, or let it develop further complexity in the cellar until 2030+. This wine is a true reflection of its unique terroir and the dedication of its makers.

2021 Savage Red

Crafted by the talented Duncan Savage, this stunning wine showcases the very best of South African Syrah.

The 2021 Savage Red is a compelling 100% Syrah sourced from organically grown vineyards in Stellenbosch’s decomposed granite soils. The grapes, handpicked from three parcels in the Kuils River area, undergo spontaneous fermentation with 50% whole clusters. 12 months in 500-liter barrels and an additional 10 months in foudre add character and complexity.

The nose bursts with aromas of ripe red plums, mulberries, and strawberry compote, with notes of lavender, lilies, sandalwood and thyme. The palate is broad and textured, with waves of sweet red and black berry fruits, savory meaty nuances, and a touch of black peppercorn. A granitic mineral finish and polished, plush tannins complete the wine.

This Syrah drinks beautifully right now, but will develop beautifully over the next 10 to 12 years. Duncan Savage is unstoppable.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
