Description

The 2023 Thomas Wines Synergy Semillon is an absolute steal, offering remarkable quality at an everyday price.

Crafted by the talented Andrew "Thommo" Thomas, this Semillon brings together the best of multiple old vine vineyards across the Hunter Valley. Thommo meticulously selects parcels from his renowned single-vineyard sites, including Braemore, Brycefield, and Fordwich Hill, to create a blend that's bursting with bright fruit.

On the nose, expect fresh citrus, orange blossom, hints of Thai spices, and a touch of lanolin. The palate is fresh and zippy, with citrus, ripe pear, and melon flavors. A taut, lime-like acidity keeps everything in perfect balance, leading to a clean, fresh finish.

This wine's purity and length are rarely found at such an accessible price point. Seriously smashable value!

"The 2023 Synergy Semillon is tight and pithy on the nose, leading with scratched lemon and bath salt, a hint of leafy thyme/sage (actually, it's really quite like the smell of fresh sage in the garden right after it's been watered) and nashi pear skin in the mouth. The phenolics have a pleasing, bitter almond/green almond quality through to the finish. It's a lovely wine, coiled, pristine, austere..."

    Fabulous

This a fabulous semillon for the price. I'd pay much more for it, Andrew Thomas is one of the best winemakers in the Hunter Valley and it shows in this semillon.

    Excellent value.

This is easily the best Semillon I've ever had in this price range.

Winemaker's Comments
This wine is a blend of selected parcels of old vine Hunter Valley Semillon that we are fortunate enough to have access to. The distinctive characters of each vineyard work in synergy to create a wine with its own unique personality.

Part of what makes all our single-vineyard wines such benchmarks for the region is the absolute no-compromise approach to selecting only the very best parcels. This leaves behind a number of ‘declassified' parcels which we put together to create this blend. The majority of the 2023 Synergy Semillon blend is from our Braemore vineyard, with the balance from the Brycefield and Fordwich Hill vineyards. This wine delivers outstanding quality for everyday drinking at an amazingly affordable price.

Tasting Notes
A brilliant pale yellow/green in colour, this wine has a generosity of fruit not usually expected in Hunter Semillon. Floral aromas of orange blossom, Thai spices and lanolin dance around the glass, and are kept in check by a linear, lime-like focus. The palate offers flavours of citrus, ripe pear and melon fruit, with a lengthy, subliminally taut acidity providing a pleasing freshness to the finish. An absolute perfect accompaniment to fresh seafood dishes. Seriously smashable…..

Thomas Wines

Andrew Thomas is a modern-day legend in the Hunter Valley, crafting some of the region's greatest wines for over three decades. His personal label is regarded as a benchmark winery, with a focus on premium Shiraz and Semillon— the Hunter Valley's hero varieties. Thomas has access to some of the region’s best vineyards, allowing him to create wines that truly capture the essence of the Hunter.

Originally from McLaren Vale, Thommo moved to the Hunter Valley to join the winemaking team at Tyrrell's Wines. After 13 years, he ventured out to develop his own label, making single-vineyard wines that highlight the subtle differences between Hunter’s subregions.

Thomas Wines is known for its classic Hunter Valley Shiraz and Semillon, but it also occasionally explores innovative styles without compromising on value. The white wines are delicate and cellar-worthy, while the reds are full-bodied and classic in the best sense of the word, making them one of the benchmarks for modern Hunter Shiraz.

A mentor to much of the next generation of Hunter producers, if you want to try the essence of the Hunter Valley, Thommo's wines are a must-try.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
