Description

A landmark moment for the Spinifex label - a patch of Eden Valley dirt that Pete Schell and Magali Gely can finally call their own.

This is the new flagship Shiraz for Spinifex. Rostein vineyard sits high up in the dress cirle of Eden Valley in the hallowed pocket known as the Flaxman Valley. The higher altitude (almost 500m above sea level) and the hungry sandy soils make for perfect conditions to grow intense Shiraz.

Acquired in 2014, this site is set to be the jewel in the Spinifex crown. Organic management principals and a wholistic approach to vineyard cultivation is the approach.

This is a mighty wine, well worth the flagship designation. Built to be a long-term cellaring propisition yet suple enough to approach in its youth, South Australia has a new icon Shiraz and its name is Rostein.

2018 is the first vintage from this vineyard since we purchased it in 2014 that we felt delivered wines that warranted bottling as estate grown, single vineyard wines in terms of character and quality.

98 Points - "This has an assertive, red-cherry and blackberry nose with crushed stones, graphite and abundant fragrant spices, buried deep in black fruit. The palate has dense tannins and very intense, concentrated, blackberry and blood-plum flavours. Chiseled, compressed, velvety and powerful. Needs three to four years." - Nick Stock (JamesSuckling.com)

95 Points - "Blue fruits, crushed rocks, light spice, cola, some eucalyptus, fennel and minty notes. Yum smells. Palate is lush but controlled, deeply flavoured, ripples with fine swishes of tannin and finds cool acidity underlying, minerally and freshening. A gulpable red but one that asks for attention - lots of detail here, lots to sit and pause on. Some tension in the finish too; it speaks of save some for later. A very, very good shiraz." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

96 Points - "First release. Hand picked, no whole bunches. Wild-yeast fermented then matured for 12 months in 50% new barriques and demi-muids. A grand newcomer for Spinifex, this is the first time this vineyard has stepped up since it was purchased in 2014. Signature Eden Valley shiraz of full purple hue, reverberating with deep-set spice, powerful blackberry and satsuma plum fruit, fresh licorice and a full serve of dark chocolate oak. Impressive concentration is consummately backed with a fine yet taut frame of intricately suspended tannins that carry the finish very long indeed." - Tyson Stelzer (Halliday Wine Companion)

Spinifex Wines

Spinifex are one of the 'New' Barossa's true pioneer producers. Husband and wife team Peter Schell & Magali Gely have extensive experience in southern France, which proves the inspiration for their unique wines made from predominantly Rhone varietals.

Spinifex was on the front line of the new wave of Barossa producers. Peter's wines brought a new sensibility to the region, they were lower in alcohol, concentrated but elegant, and balanced to perfection. He takes the art of blending into the realm of the virtuoso. There are few wineries who deliver refinement and poise from the Barossa Valley like Spinifex.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
