We’ve got all the time in the world for Jane Eyre. She’s one of those winemakers whose story reads a bit like a script - except she's actually lived it. A Melbourne hairdresser who decided, in her own words, she didn’t want to own a salon and wasn’t quite great at hair, so why not make wine? Fast forward to now, and she’s one of the most respected names working in Burgundy. First Aussie ever named Négociant of the Year by La Revue du Vin de France. First woman, too. No big deal.
What we love about Jane is how grounded her winemaking is. There’s no flash, no ego - just clean, focused wines that absolutely hum with energy. She works as a micro-négociant, buying fruit from tiny parcels, building long-term relationships with growers, and often farming the same rows every vintage. “You don’t know what you’re going to get until it comes out the other end,” she told us. Which, honestly, says everything about her approach - curious, precise, and always learning.
Her style leans toward the elegant and expressive: light touch, gentle extractions, and minimal new oak. She talks about whole bunch as a seasoning tool. New oak as “a bit of mascara.” It’s all instinct and finesse. These are wines that feel good - fine tannins, bright fruit, and beautiful transparency. They drink effortlessly but reward attention.
While Burgundy is home, Jane still makes time for Australia, crafting superb Pinot from the Yarra and Mornington. Her wines across both hemispheres share a through-line: clarity, balance, and a kind of quiet confidence that you don’t forget.
