Description

The Between Two Mountains Pinot Noir is the lighter, more ethereal Pinot Noir from Place of Changing Winds.

Taken from the plot of vines that has a view to both Mt Macedon and Mt Bullengarook in the chilled air of Macedon Ranges, this shows a more red-fruited profile, more freshness and a distinct transparency of site.

Organic viticulture and a minimal intervention approach to the winemaking craft behind this cuvee makes for an energetic, racy Pinot Noir that is approachable now but has more than enough architecture to develop over a decade in the cellar.

"The power and length of the wine are extraordinary, and the 'drink to' date should prove conservative."
- 98 pts, James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

Although this is our least expensive Pinot, it comes from vines that receive exactly the same standard of work as the wines below.

98 Points - "Deep crimson purple. An exotically perfumed bouquet, partly from the inclusion of one-third whole bunches in the ferment and 18 months maturation in used Stockinger barrels. The power and length of the wine are extraordinary, and the 'drink to' date should prove conservative." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

96 Points - "Supple textured, deep and gently savoury, mellow red and black cherry fruit characters, sourness in a pleasant sense, alpine herbs, a slick dusting of clove and cinnamon, bright, blood orange acidity and licks of game meat, truffle and autumnal savoury elements. It feels fine and fancy, exqusiite in detail of flavours and beautiful texture. Sensational, really. Top flight." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

92 Points - "Deep red-purple colour, excellent depth of colour; plum and dark-cherry aromas, bold and ripe; the tannins are firm and bold, a quite powerful pinot with intensity and drive. Long finish. Solid wine, a tiny but muted, not especially perfumed or detailed, but very good." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

    Sensational

A beautiful complex delightful Pinot. Despite the serious fruit it was still elegant.

Berries cherries balanced with subtle oak. I loved it.

Place of Changing Winds

The Place of Changing Winds vineyard was planted by notable Australian wine importer, journalist, and author, Rob Walters.

Rob had hunted for a special site to plant in the cooler climes of Australia for many years. One day, esteemed grower/winemaker at Bindi, Michael Dhillon, called him and said, "Rob, I've found your vineyard."

The site sits at 500m above sea level in the Macedon Ranges. Rob has farmed it organically from the start. Planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay at an incredible average of 15,000 vines per hectare, this is one of the most exciting emerging viticultural projects in the country.

New to the Place of Change of Winds range are wines from Heathcote high country, organically planted in collaboration with Rhone legend Alain Graillot. These delicious Syrahs, and a Marsanne for the first time from the 2019 vintage, were previously under the Graillot Australia label but are now fully vinified at Place of Changing Winds in Macedon.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
