Description

The Dry Red No. 2 is Yarra Yering’s ode to the Rhône, a co-fermented blend with a distinctly Australian accent - layered, poised, and utterly seductive.

Originally dreamed up by the visionary Dr Bailey Carrodus, this wine is almost entirely Shiraz this year with a tiny splash of Viognier - an old-world blueprint reimagined through a Yarra Valley lens. As always, the winemaking is precise: hand-picked fruit, whole berries to boost fragrance, a few handfuls of frozen Viognier skins and Marsanne bunches added to select fermenters, then 15 months in fine French oak to knit it all together.

Complex from the first swirl - black cherry, licorice, iodine, graphite - before opening into a wine of seamless texture and savoury length.

This is elegant, age-worthy Australian Shiraz at the very top of its game. One for collectors, one for the table, and one that Dr Carrodus would surely raise a glass to.

"Every sip and sniff shines a light on a new corner of the spice rack that is on offer here. White pepper ebbs and flows, a hint of salumi lifts then fades all the while there’s power and density but it never sits heavily."
- Stuart Knox (The Real Review)

"This wine is drinking beautifully even now, though once the creaminess of the oak has had more time to settle in and down, it will be better again."

98 points - "Deep ruby, bright in the glass with hints of purple at the edges. Raspberry, blueberry, cumin, rose petal and cinnamon aromas all sing out on the nose and palate. Every sip and sniff shines a light on a new corner of the spice rack that is on offer here. White pepper ebbs and flows, a hint of salumi lifts then fades all the while there’s power and density but it never sits heavily. Acidity brings life and fine boned tannins ensure structure and focus. The finish is eventually reached, demanding you return to the start again to discover something new." - Stuart Knox (The Real Review)

97 points "A blend of 99.5/.05% shiraz/viognier. Fermented with whole berries and matured in barriques (30% new). The cool vintage shows through in what's a lovely and elegant rendition of this Yarra Valley classic. Aromas of red and black fruits, spices and ironstone together with a gentle meatiness. Medium bodied and supple. An approachable and quite delicious Dry Red No. 2 that will provide copious amounts of enjoyment now and over the next 10–15 years." - Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

96 points - "Quite beautiful wine from this difficult vintage. I guess it shows what old vines can do when the going gets tough. It’s a co-fermented blend of Shiraz, Marsanne and Viognier, displaying texture. perfume and structural tannin. The additional spice comes from a tiny amount of Mataro. Medium weight and so beautifully balanced and poised as you would expect. Most appealing wine." - Ray Jordan (Wine Pilot)

95 points - "The combination of bright-but-complex flavour, creamy mouthfeel, good general concentration and immaculate structure places this wine in excellent territory in a canter. That said, it has yet more going for it. This wine has an air of “Burgundian shiraz”, so to speak, in its rendition of delicacy, and combination of nuts shells and dried herbs, and in the way it almost feels water-based, even as it delivers solid flavour. This wine is drinking beautifully even now, though once the creaminess of the oak has had more time to settle in and down, it will be better again." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Excellent fruit profile, well blended, balanced, approachable but with the potential to cellar for an extensive period. A perfect combination. Great wine

Excellent wine

YY are excellent, wines, suggest a 6 year lay-down for the reds, to allow them to fully integrate. Best Buy a few each year.

One of the best Australian Shiraz Viogniers around

One of my favourite styles and this is one of the best. Up there with Clonakilla and even Torbreck Run Rig! A nice fresh (lighter) style typical of a cooler climate with a beautiful nose and nice juicy acidity leaving you wanting another sip.

Today, the wines are crafted by the talented Sarah Crowe. She brings the wines to bottle with the same passion and attention to detail that made the great Yarra Yering wines of old so revered.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
