Description

Burn Cottage is one of the pioneers of biodynamics in Central Otago. Since day one, this estate has been groomed to perfection, and it is now rightfully considered a global benchmark for Pinot Noir. While many labels chase power, Burn Cottage is prized for its rare ability to marry that Central Otago intensity with a level of finesse that rivals the best of Burgundy.

The 2023 Pinot Noir is a complex puzzle of ten different blocks and a wide array of clones, including Abel and 10/5, which provide the backbone and spice. Winemaker Claire Mulholland has opted for a judicious 10% whole cluster and 27% new oak - just enough to frame the fruit without getting in the way of the site’s natural energy.

It’s an incredibly detailed release, leading with perfumed violets, raspberry seed, and a savoury whiff of spicy tobacco. There’s a beautiful texture to the tannins and a glimpse of graphite mineral notes in the layers. It’s vibrant and supple now, but the seamless structure of the 2023 vintage suggests this will evolve gracefully in the cellar for a decade or more.

"The 2023 Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir is so detailed and pretty. The fruit here is silky and bright, with nuances of sweet tobacco and raspberry seed, and there are creamy tannins and layers of tissue-paper texture and acidity. What a beautiful wine this is, showing the poise, detail and energy of the 2023 vintage. The 2023 wines seem to be a magnificent cellaring vintage, although I will understand if they are all consumed upon release, such is the beauty and poise of them as young wines..."

If they were people, we'd say that they were "old souls" or "mature before their time" or even "young prodigies." I love the 2023s en masse and have great respect and hope for their potential futures. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

EXCELLENT

A very good wine and much more nuanced than a lot of central Otago pinots. Elegant . Loved it . Hard to get much with husband in tow.

Spectacular

Spectacular wine. Truly great example of premium central Otago Pinot. Everything you could ask for in a Pinot, at least as far as my plate extends!

Stunning!

Probably could've cellared this for a few years, but curiosity got the better of me! Epic wine and was even better on day 2 of opening.

Top shelf Otago Pinot

This is and has always been a top shelf Central Otago Pinot. Well worth the 'extra $$' for that special dinner or long lunch.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
