Description

Here is a cracking selection of Australia's best Rieslings from some of our favourite Riesling producers.

Riesling is one of the world's great grapes, and arguably the white wine Australia does best!

There has never been more innovation and excitement within Aussie Riesling than right now, and this pack brings you six cutting-edge examples of Riesling in different styles and from different regions, that show off what makes this variety so popular.

  • 2023 Koerner Watervale Riesling
  • 2023 Torzi Matthews Frost Dodger Riesling
  • 2023 Meadowbank Riesling
  • 2023 Ravensworth Regional Riesling
  • 2023 Rieslingfreak No. 5 Clare Valley Off Dry Riesling
  • 2022 Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown Obstgarten K Riesling

2023 Koerner Watervale Riesling

The Koerner Riesling is grown on the Koerner family vineyard, Gullyview, in Watervale, Clare Valley.

This vineyard has been farmed by the Koerners for 35 years, the sons Damon and Jonathan are intimate with the fruit and it shows. This is Watervale Riesling with more character and texture than the 'classic' styles of wine the region is famous for.

The fruit spent 6 hours on skins and was fermented and aged in a combination of stainless steel and ceramic amphora for 2 months. No fining, filtering or additions apart from a smidge of sulphur. It has texture and vitality and a load of interest. It's an alternative look at a staple of the Australian wine landscape by a family-owned operation. Great stuff. Read More

"A potency to this wine, texture and savoury elements with strong currency of green apple, tart lime and gingery spice woven through...It feels so distinct from run-of-the-mill Clare Valley riesling archetypes, delivering complexity through its various elements, and yet so composed. Excellent."
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

2023 Torzi Matthews Frost Dodger Riesling

Two old Eden Valley Riesling vineyards combine here under the guidance of Domenic Torzi.

The Frost Dodger is quintessential Eden Valley Riesling - lithe, light but full of flavour. Torzi left the wine on lees for eight weeks prior to racking to build in more weight and texture but the end result is as pure and pristine as any Riesling you are likely to see.

It feels dart-like and über refreshing. A seriously good value wine given its potential for ageing up to a decade or more and its stellar drinking in its youth.

We think this wine is surely one of the best value white wines made in Australia. A bargain! Read More

"Texture is lovely, and indeed, this Riesling continues to be one of the most distinctive offerings available from this country. As an aside, it’s quite Italianate in its delivery, which of course I really like."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

2023 Meadowbank Riesling

Winemaker Peter Dredge doesn't put a foot wrong when he's got fruit this good to play with, and this is simply a top-flight Tassie Riesling.

As is often the case with Riesling from this part of the country, retaining a little residual sweetness here was the key to balance.

A wine of impeccable line and length, this is ripe for drinking immediately or tucking away for up to a decade in the cellar. Read More

98 points & Top 100 Wines of the Year
"It’s such a ravishing wine, as rich and deep as it is pure and fine. Redefines citrus."
- James Halliday (The Weekend Australian)

2023 Ravensworth Regional Riesling

Those that have ever tasted the exquisite wines from the Clonakilla stable should know that most of them have been touched by the hands of Ravensworth owner/winemaker/butcher/purveyor of smoked meats, Bryan Martin.

The Ravensworth project is a chance for him to captain his own ship. The wines are some of the best value in the country.

This is a scintillating expression of Riesling. Nothing fancy (apart from a small component made in ceramic egg). Just amazing fruit made with a gentle and precise touch. This sits right alongside the best Rieslings in the Canberra region.

The demand for Bryan's wines escalates every year, and with great-value wines like this coming from him so consistently, it's no wonder. Read More

96 points - "This is something else and delicious. Heady aromatics wafts of lemon blossom, ginger flower and spices, yet the palate steals the show. Textural, waxy, stony and complex with a silk-line of acidity all the way through. A cracking drink on its own or with food."
- Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

2023 Rieslingfreak No. 5 Clare Valley Off Dry Riesling

There are few off-dry styles of Riesling in Australia that are executed as well as this offering from Riesling fanatic, John Hughes.

The balance in this release is excellent. The ripeness of fruit and the laser-like acidity all lends itself perfectly to make this more 'Germanic' expression of the Clare Valley. It's a wine you could happily drink straight away, or hold onto it for later (if you can resist).

This wine style matches perfectly with spicy dishes and has the balance to drink brilliantly on its own. Read More

"Beautifully balanced, a magical wine. The most gorgeous wine on the day."
- 96 pts, Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

"A beautiful line of flavour follows, reserved sweetness kept in check by laser like acidity driving through to a long, stony and drying finish. Immaculate balance will see this age very well. 2026-2035"
- 96 pts, Andrew Caillard MW (The Vintage Journal)

2022 Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown Obstgarten K Riesling

While the Schmolzer & Brown duo await their own estate-grown Riesling to come online, they are plundering other cool-climate Victorian regions for premium fruit to play with.

Here they take fruit from the second highest Riesling vineyard in Whitlands region, and turn it into their version of a German Kabinett style Riesling - hence the Obstgarten 'K'.

The acidity is absolutely blistering allowing the wine to find an easy balance with a touch of residual sugar though still maintaining a dry style overall.

This is a beautiful, elegant style of Riesling from one of Victoria's rising star producers. Drink now or cellar long. Read More

94 points - "This is so delicious, so easy to drink, so charming, so compelling...The finish is a beautiful clatter of fruit, sweetness and cool, minerally acidity. This delivers so much joy.."
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

    Fantastic alternative pack

This is a great little pack and excellent value for money. The wines are all not your standard style Rieslings and are all experimental styles (oak, wild ferment. lees etc.) which are not traditionally associated with Rieslings. They've all be done very well by some very good winemakers.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
